Ui text stuck on black color

So I made some UI elements a while ago and after updating to Unity 5 the text I use to display score is now stuck on black color. The text has an animation attached that changes the color and size when points are scored. I tried removing the animation, adding new text elements, different materials. Nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
